Re-dedication Ceremony for Memorial to Captain James Thorp USMC

TUE 26 MAY 2009 NJROTC VALLEY H.S.

BMAC and member NLUSCKC responded to a request from SNSI Mark Peters, LCDR USN (Ret.) to plan and organize support for a re-dedication of an on-site memorial to CAPT James Thorp USMC KIA Persian Gulf War. CAPT Thorp was a former member of the NJROTC program at the school. During the last year, SNSI Peters had acquired a grant to revitalize the memorial site. In the past semester, the NJROTC cadets had completely replanted the memorial garden and installed new edging stones. When requested to support the event, MAJOR Rory Quinn CO USMC Recruiting Station LOUKY responded affirmatively with brought uniformed members and made remarks. Surviving family members of CAPT Thorp traveled from TX and IL. to attend the event. Uniformed NJROTC cadets in formation honored the memory and service of the fallen Marine. Following the re-dedication ceremony, family members of CAPT Thorp and cadets attended the 40th Anniversary Reception of NJROTC Valley High School.
