BGAD hosts first OIF/OEF Wounded
Warrior Invitational Deer Hunt
29 SEP 2009 Richmond KY
A note of thanks to all of you who supported our first OIF/OEF Wounded Warrior Deer Hunt this past weekend at BGAD. I am not sure who had more fun, the hunters or all the Depot employees that made it happen. Our event began Thursday evening in a blinding rainstorm with Blue Grass Army Depot members of the Patriot Guard Riders escorting vehicles with 13 Wounded Warriors from Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox down Duncannon Lane. The motorcycle escort and American Flags lining the roadway into BGAD were pretty impressive and the Wounded Warriors loved it.
After a familiarization fire at our Range Friday morning, they hunted Friday evening and all day Saturday. Despite the rain, they drove away with 7 deer. Because of the generosity of Depot employees and others, everything was paid for the Wounded Warriors, including their hunting licenses. Almost every soldier was amazed at the level of dedication that was displayed during our event. To quote from one of the hunters,
"you are to be commended for a class act". Hooah!
